March 26 & 27, 2015: Visit by Prof. K. C. Nicolaou - the Jean Dreyfus Boissevain Lecturer
Dr. Lampropoulos and Dr. Laali received the Jean Dreyfus Boissevain Lectureship award for the UNF Chemistry department in 2014. The Dreyfus Lecturer was Prof. K. C. Nicolaou of Rice University, who presented the following two lectures as part of his visit.
On March 26 & 27, 2015 Prof. Kyriacos C. Nicolaou of Rice University visited the campus, gave two highly attended lectures, interacted with students and faculty, inspiring his diverse audience in both his lectures. The younger students got inspired by the artist of total synthesis, especially since most of the audience were undergraduate students from UNF, JU, FSCJ, and Edward Waters College, together with faculty from all these academic institutions, as well many local high school teachers and their students. Additionally he had the opportunity to interact with scientists from Mayo Clinic Jacksonville, Vistakon, Lamp Light Tech, and Adpen technologies. Prof. Nicolaou was engaged in various activities, both formal and informal, such as a visit to the historic St. Augustine and the St. Photios Greek Orthodox Shrine. Profs. Nicolaou and Lampropoulos also gave a live interview to the PBS Radio Station WJCT and First Coast Connect. The Dreyfus foundation is greatly acknowledged for funding this lectureship, which was awarded to Profs. Lampropoulos and Laali.
